There are two parts to our vast and wonderfully illustrated, massive graphic novel (It will be 200+ pages. We'll let you know ASAP).
The first part is a straightforward graphic novel that tells the story of Chad Havok and his boss, Rick DeBanks. Both are “abnormals,” which are people with unexplained superpowers. In Chad’s case, he’s an ultra-rare “polymath” (i.e., good at everything, with supra-genius-level intelligence, strength, and athleticism). Despite his objections, Chad eventually adopts the name Über-Chad. DeBanks, for his part, has super strength and high intelligence but especially excels in leadership. True leadership is, technically, a paranormal power when one can lead other abnormals. Hence DeBanks’ nickname: the Final Boss. Naturally, DeBanks is the founder of the superhero team, the Alliance.
DeBanks’ first brush with the shadowy organization known as the Cathedral occurred when its members tried to kill him as a mere infant. His parents relayed the incident to him years later, after the Cathedral made their second attempt. You see, the Cathedral doesn’t like “talent” it can’t control. DeBanks’ incredible leadership “aura” made him a potential non-assimilable abnormal from the start. DeBanks eventually became aware of the Cathedral’s vast, far-reaching power and its plans to completely subjugate the world. In order to counter their plan, he formed the superhero team, the Alliance. Abnormals are notoriously difficult to lead because each one of them essentially considers themselves “The Final Boss.” But, again, leadership is DeBanks’ gift. Nevertheless, abnormals typically beat the tar out of each other when they first meet (and sometimes afterward). DeBanks’ first recruit was the gigantic Ukrainian strongman, Marko Belaya, who would eventually go by the name General Havok. That was a brutal fight DeBanks was lucky to survive, but he gained Marko’s lifelong respect in doing so.
DeBanks discovered Chad when he heard about a kid doing some pretty ridiculous things at a local middle school science fair. DeBanks fortunately reached Chad before the Cathedral did. Saving Chad’s life helped him avoid the compulsory throw-down. Though Chad is also an unusually good-natured abnormal. But all these stories are great stories for another time. Indeed, The Adventures of Über-Chad #1 picks up after the Alliance has already been formed. It describes the recruitment of two of their key members: Max Test and Brainstorm. The first is a man/sea urchin hybrid!.Basically, it’s impossible to puncture his skin or “test” it, and he’s got some nasty sharp spines. The second is a type 6 paranormal. Basically, she’s a stunner who can control minds. DeBanks is used to commanding abnormals; he’s less used to commanding paranormals or what he calls “the head cases.” But man, if you can, you get great insight into how the paranormal-heavy Cathedral runs its whole racket. Both Max Test and Brainstorm had already been inducted into the Cathedral when they are first encountered by Chad and DeBanks. So throw-downs were unavoidable. Oh, and yeah, they’re also fighting the Cathedral, so there are more than enough throw-downs to go around.
The second part of our graphic novel is a heroes’/rogues’ gallery of all the incredible superheroes and villains that inhabit the Alliance Universe. We felt this was the only way to give readers a real introduction to the amazing Alliance Universe. These include the entire Alliance team, the sinister Reptiloids, the God Emperor, the Pseudo-Chads, Galaxy Brain, Deep State, the Pagan, and many more. Over 60 characters in all and counting.
